Being Conscious of the Hows

For many, starting a business is not a natural process. It requires a unique flexibility, resilience and open mindedness that is rarely required in other work environments. Simultaneously, the entrepreneur must create their methods of accomplishing tasks while testing new resources and validating their ideas (or variations of new ideas). Serial entrepreneurs have the advantage of their previous experiences, both successes and failures and the derived lessons. The first-time entrepreneur has the benefit of creating their own liberation, from their own fresh start and, at the same time, the overwhelming effort of organizing it all and keeping things on point. As one finds their unique style, methods, resources and everything else broadly categorized as new experiences, I have found that it helps to be extra conscious of how one is learning, leading and living. In other words, while building your company do concentrate on how you are personally getting there in these particular aspects. Your foundation and personal processes can be duplicated, adjusted or later transferred or eliminated. The knowledge can be powerful and help in many ways such as putting you in a better position to branch into new projects quicker and perhaps, fire up another Company. One way of doing this is by debriefing yourself through writing (perhaps blogging). Other suggestions include working with a business or life coach or having discussions with an advisory group. Often times, new entrepreneurs are moving so fast that they miss the opportunity of learning from the details within their efforts. Whatever your means of introspection and it is subjective, paying closer attention to how you are learning, leading and living is an important part of being a new entrepreneur. Over time and with the changes and transformations, this conscious effort will become more natural.
